To ensure Equilab runs smoothly and tracks your rides accurately, it's important to set up both your device and the app correctly from the start. This article walks you through the essential settings to take.
Whether you're using Equilab for training insights, safety tracking, or sharing your progress with friends, these setup steps will help you get the most out of the app from day one.
Let’s get started with the key settings you’ll need to check on your phone and inside the Equilab app.
iOS Settings
To ensure your device has everything set for Equilab use, here are the settings you should set:
- Enable proper Location Services to make sure you have the best possible settings for your device's GPS accuracy. While you’ll be prompted to grant these permissions when you first launch the app, you can follow the steps below at any time to review or update them.
- To do so, go to your device's Settings > select Privacy & Security > tap on Location Services > scroll down and tap on Equilab > and ensure "While using the app" and "Precise Location" options are selected/have the toggle on
- Disable Low Power Mode
- To do so, go to your device's Settings > select Battery > then disable Low Power Mode
- Disable Data Saver
- To do so, go to your device's Settings > tap on Mobile Service (or Cellular) > tap on Mobile Data Options (or Cellular Data Options) > and then toggle off Low Data Mode
- Enable Notifications on both the app and on your device. While not strictly required to use the app, certain features - like Safety Tracking alerts and monthly ride summaries - depend on them to function properly.
- In Equilab: open Equilab app > go to Profile > tap the settings gear > tap on Reminders and Notifications > and then enable all
- On your device: go to Settings > tap on Notifications > search for Equilab > make sure Notifications are allowed or go to Settings > tap on Apps > search for Equilab > make sure Notifications are allowed
Android Settings

- Enable unrestricted Battery Optimization
- To do so, go to your device's Settings > tap on Apps > search for Equilab > select Battery > choose Unrestricted
- Disable Power Saver Mode. You will be prompted to disable it before you start tracking, but you can take the steps laid out below to check its status at any point.

- Disable Background usage limits/Sleeping apps

- Disable Data Removal
- To do so, go to your device's Settings > select the option for App Permissions > choose Equilab > then ensure the switch is turned off for Remove permissions and free up space
- Enable Notifications on both the app and on your device. While not strictly required to use the app, certain features - like Safety Tracking alerts and monthly ride summaries - depend on them to function properly.
- In Equilab: go to Profile > tap on the three dots in the top-right corner of the screen > tap on Settings > select Notifications > and enable all
- On your device: go to Settings > tap on Notifications > tap on App notifications > search for Equilab > enable notifications or go to Settings > tap on Apps > search for Equilab > and make sure Notifications are allowed
- Turn off Wi-Fi before starting a ride. Switching to mobile data helps maintain a stable connection and avoids interruptions caused by weak or changing Wi-Fi signals.
- To do so, swipe down from the top of the screen to open the Quick Settings panel > tap the Wi-Fi icon to turn it off or go to Settings > Network & internet > Internet and toggle the Wi-Fi switch off.
Additional Settings for Both iOS and Android Devices
- Mobile Data: Keep it turned on at all times. This is especially important for Safety Tracking, as it allows real-time updates to be sent to your safety contacts
- Phone placement: Make sure your phone is securely fastened against your body. If it's moving within a pocket, the data will likely be inaccurate - making it impossible to accurately determine your gaits
