How to use the Live Safety Tracking feature

Modified on Wed, 21 Aug at 12:36 PM

Our Live Safety Tracking feature, which is available to Premium subscribers, empowers contacts of your choosing to follow your ride from their phone or computer. This ensures you can get home safely after every ride.

Equilab shares your position and information about your ride in real time. If something happens to you, those contacts you have enabled to follow you will know exactly where you are. You can have one or more Safety Contacts following you at the same time. Additionally, you can choose to alert these Safety Contacts if you stop moving for a certain period of time.

The best way to add Safety Contacts is to choose them from your list of Friends on Equilab. They do not need a Premium subscription and will be able to follow you via the app, get alerted if you stop moving, and/or track your ride from a computer.

  • Alternatively, if your Safety Contact cannot use the Equilab app, you can send them a link to follow your ride from a web browser on their phone or computer. (Note: you'll need to send the link before you start riding.)

Read more below to see how to use Safety Tracking, or check out our YouTube video here.

Setting up Safety Tracking

To enable the feature, take the following steps:

  1. Open Equilab and go to the Track tab

  2. Tap on the "Safety Tracking" button (if you are not yet a Premium subscriber, you'll be prompted to start a trial or purchase a subscription)
  3. Press the orange "Enable Safety Tracking" button

Once you have enabled the feature, you'll be able to let others track your rides in one of two ways:

I) Add Safety Contacts

To add someone as a Safety Contact, they need to have the Equilab app (but not a Premium subscription, they can be a free user!) and be a Friend of yours in Equilab. You can learn how to add your friends in the app by reading this support article.

Then, to add them as Safety Contacts, take the following steps within the app (once you have enabled the feature):

  1. Go to the Track tab
  2. Tap the Safety Tracking button

  3. Select the option to "Add Safety Contact"
  4. Choose their name from the list of your Friends
    • Note: You can add multiple safety contacts, and can easily remove them by tapping their name and then selecting "Remove".

Safety Alarm

In addition to getting notified each time you start/stop a ride, all Safety Contacts will also receive a message through Equilab if you stop moving for more than a few minutes. For this reason, it is critical that you ensure your Safety Contacts have enabled Equilab to send them push notifications on their mobile devices.

And of course, they will be able to follow your rides and track your location in real time, should they need to find you in real time from their Feed tab.

II) Share Safety Tracking Links

If you want to enable someone other than a Safety Contact to follow your ride, you can send them a link to track your location before riding. To do so, simply follow these steps in Equilab:

  1. Go to the Track tab
  2. Press the "Share" button next to the "Safety Tracking" one
  3. Use the menu that pops up to share the tracking link with your contacts through whichever channel works best (the person receiving the link will need to be able to click it and have it open in a web browser)

Remove Safety Contacts

To remove someone from your Safety Contacts list, please take the following steps:

  1. On the Track page, tap on the Safety Tracking button (above the "Horse" one)

  2. From the Safety Contacts section, tap on the 3 dots next to the person you want to remove

  3. Tap on "Delete"
