My gaits are not being tracked

Modified on Thu, 2 Jan at 3:48 PM

Occasionally, the app won't be able to track your gaits for the duration of your training. This article outlines the key reasons this occurs and how to address them.

Most Common Cause

If the your whole training is recorded with the proper time and distance/path, but you don't see any gaits, the motion data from your ride may not have been properly analyzed. Typically, this occurs when:

  1. Equilab could not make sense of the motion data your device recorded. This can occur if the device is bouncing out of sync with you and your horse's motion. Since we use vertical motion (not speed) to detect gaits, it's important that your phone is secured tightly against your body. If it's moving within a pocket, the data will likely be inaccurate — making it impossible to accurately determine your gaits.

  2. There was an issue with the accelerometer or gyroscope in your device. These are the components of your device that enable Equilab to track your horse's gait based on your motion as a rider (learn more in this article). As a first step to solve such issues, please delete and then re-install the Equilab app on your device.
    • Note that you will not lose any of your data if your delete the app, as all of your information is securely stored on our servers. You will need to log back into your account after re-installing, however (so if you need to confirm which login method, go to Profile > Settings > Account to see whether to use your email, Apple, or Facebook login.)

Other Potential Causes

If your training gets disrupted by a pop-up notification saying that your ride was interrupted, please refer to this section of our support site.

Some devices don't have gyroscopes, which limits the amount of motion data that Equilab can collect. If your device is missing such a sensor, you'll receive a notification the first time you track with Equilab that notes gaits may not be accurate.

Finally, some devices are simply not sensitive enough to provide the necessary level of detail from motion data. While there isn't a solution we can provide for these scenarios, they are rare — so contact us before assuming this may be the case for you (we can check, it just takes a bit of time).
