The GPS is inaccurate (wrong distance and/or path)

Modified on Thu, 5 Dec at 7:48 AM

If your trainings are being recorded without interruption but do not accurately reflect the path you travel, you can take the steps outlined below to address the few potential causes.

Disable wifi while tracking

Be sure you have turned off wifi while tracking (as connecting/disconnecting from wifi can disrupt GPS signals for your device).

Reset your GPS

Turn your phone off for 5 minutes (and keep it still) and then turn it back on to reconnect to new GPS satellites.

*Note that if you are riding indoors, Equilab will not be able to track your rides accurately given the roof/walls block the GPS signal that the app uses to determine the distance and speeds you rode.

Ensure the most accurate location tracking is enabled for your device

Follow these instructions depending on which type of device you have.

iPhone users:

  1. Open the Settings app

  2. Select Privacy & Security

  3. Tap on Location Services

  4. Scroll down and tap on Equilab

  5. Ensure the Precise Location option is toggled on

Android users:

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen.
  2. Tap and hold Location

    • If you don't find Location :
      • Tap Edit or Settings .
      • Drag Location  into your Quick Settings.

  3. Tap Equilab under the "Recent access" section. (If you don't see it there, tap "App Permissions" and then choose Equilab from the list of apps.)

  4. Turn on the Use Precise location option.
